Great Scott, it is almost here! Wednesday, October 21st 2015, the day that film fanatics have been waiting for since 1989: Back to the Future Day.  This coming Wednesday will mark the very day that Marty McFly traveled 30 years into the future to from his present time of October 26th, 1985 in order to stop his children from making some huge mistakes that were detrimental to his family. The Bryn Mawr Film Institute in Lower Merion will be hosting a fly event in which people can celebrate a day that they have been anxiously awaiting for over 20 years now.

According to 6 abc News, the Bryn Mawr Film Institute will be celebrating with a screening of the movie, costumes, trivia, and a real life DeLorean equipped with a flux-capacitor. It is expected to be a great turn out and filled with lots of fun. The DeLorean will be accessible to attendees to pose and take pictures with, and the trivia gives the opportunity to win some cool prizes. In addition to that commemoration of the popular film, on a wider scale,  Pepsi has announced that they will be releasing bottles of Pepsi Perfect and we’re sure you’ve seen the magnetic, liquid Nitrogen-powered hover boards by Lexus that are all the craze.

It’s amazing to see that some of what was predicted years ago in Back to the Future 2 is starting to actually come to reality right before our eyes. Granted we may not have self-lacing sneakers (yet) but advanced technology is all around us. For example, there are locks that you can control simply with the use of your smartphone, or a touch of your finger. In fact, August (an advanced and innovative creator of smart locks) has recently released new technology with which you can control the locks on your business or residence simply by using Siri on your iPhone. There are also bio-metric locks that you can control by effortlessly scanning your fingerprint directly on lock in order to open it.

These locks are a great way to enhance the security of your home or business, and we at Phila-Locksmith have technicians that precisely specialize in the installation and setup of smart locks as well as bio-metric locks.  Whether you’re trying to amp up security, or make life a little easier by living key-free, Phila-Locksmith has both residential and commercial technicians who can come out to you and provide you with an estimate as well as same day service. Imagine, never having to fumble around looking for a set of keys buried in the bottom of your bag, or worrying about losing a set of keys. The power is all within your beloved smartphone (that is nearly always in your hand), or, in your hand itself. Give us a call at 215-554-6109 today and arrange to have the locks of the future right at the tips of your fingers.

Hurricane Joaquin Sending the City into a Frenzy

What’s that in the sky? It’s a bird, it’s a plane! No, it’s a swirling dark cloud containing wind gusts of up to 120 mph and torrential downpours to last up until Tuesday of next week. Hurricane Joaquin(wah-KEEN) is the latest tropical storm-turned hurricane to make headlines, and people are intensely preparing for a repeat of the Hurricane Sandy incident: major destruction and power outages lasting for weeks in some areas. According to 6abc News, the hurricane has been brewing up a storm for us and overnight it became a Category 3 storm. It is expected that storm will reach Category 4, sending officials and citizens into a frenzy.

It is predicted that Hurricane Joaquin will bring strong gusts of wind and an estimated rainfall of 4-8 inches to the Philadelphia area.  The fear is that the heavy rainfall will cause major flooding in areas already prone to flooding and to frequently traveled roadways as well. In addition to that a major concern surrounding the wind is power outages. Preventative actions have already begun and in Philadelphia as well as surrounding suburbs, township workers have been working diligently to trim trees that are hanging dangerously close to power lines. In Atlantic City, officials will meet today to discuss how they will be preparing for the upcoming storm.  Be prepared to enter a zoo when stopping past your local grocery store, as everyone will be stocking up on bread, milk, eggs, flashlights and batteries.

It’s not a bad idea to stock up on flashlights and batteries as the power going out is a likely possibility over the next few days.  Be sure to ensure the safety of your home and/or business if the power does indeed go out with Phila-Locksmith. For those of you who have smart locks check to make sure a power outage will not affect the performance of your locks. Some smart locks communicate with wireless devices by means of a wi-fi connection and some interact with your security system, so if there is a disruption in the system, then you may face issues with your home security. One brand of smart lock, August, operates off of 4 AA batteries and sends signals to your smartphone by means of Bluetooth, so if your power goes out, you will still be able to use your lock completely. If your wireless device happens to die, you can log in on a different device and use the standard key option on the lock as well. If you have any questions about your smart lock and what you should do in the event of a power outage, feel free to contact Phila-Locksmith. We have certified residential and commercial locksmiths who specialize in servicing smart locks. They can come out to ensure your lock is working properly, and to give you tips to keep your home secure in case the power does go out.

Another common incident that occurs to homeowners when the power goes out is getting locked out of their home. People generally lock themselves out by absent-mindedly leaving their keys inside their home or vehicle because they are too focused on all the commotion going on around them due to the power outage. One may also use their garage as the main point of entry into their home and may not have their keys on them at all. If you use your garage door for entry into your home and the power goes out, you most likely will not be able to get into your home without the assistance of an emergency locksmith. If you find yourself locked out of your home. vehicle, or business over the next few days because of this storm, Phila-Locksmith will be waiting on your call to send  an emergency locksmith to your location in as little as 20 minutes! We have technicians on call 24 hours a day, seven days a week, so give us a call today at (215) 554-6109 to ensure your safety during Hurricane Joaquin and to assist you with all your emergency locksmith needs!
